Throughout its existence S2 Industrial has maintained a belief that the important work of the company – where our reputation lies – is in the field. We feel that safely delivering quality craftsmanship is the most important service to provide our clients. Effective delivery of this service inevitably leads to successfully meeting budgets, schedules, and any other measurable construction project criteria.
Mechanical Piping Contractors in Springfield, OR
In 1999, Doug Walker purchased business assets from Bruce Lesan (from the former S-2 Contractors; named for original owners Smith and Schmidt) and created S2 Industrial, Inc. Doug partnered with Darrell Johnson in 2003. Today, with Doug’s retirement in Fall 2016, the company is solely owned by Mr. Johnson.
After over 40 years in the piping industry, as of October 2016, Doug is enjoying a well deserved retirement. These days he spends half the year fishing and hunting at his home-away-from- home in Southeast Alaska; and the rest of the year (in Oregon) stopping by the office and telling stories about hunting and fishing in Southeast Alaska to us working stiffs.
In its infancy, S2 was primarily a heavy industrial general contracting firm specializing in wood products facilities such as log mills, pulp and paper plants, and plywood mills. While we remain dedicated to serving that market sector, our portfolio has expanded considerably since 1999.
Today we provide mechanical services in a much wider range of industries including: healthcare, educational, metals, high-tech, food processing, and power generation.
Throughout the region our customers now include: commercial facility owners, general contractors, university facilities and maintenance, and process plants.
Our self performed services include the following crafts: Pipefitters, Millwrights, Iron Workers, Carpenters and Laborers. We also have developed significant working relationships with subcontractors specializing in other disciplines such as: Sheet Metal/HVAC, Process and Building Controls, Electrical, and Insulation.
Until 2011 our company was headquartered on Laura Street in Springfield, OR. In 2011 we took the opportunity to purchase property and relocate our company to Marcola, OR (10 miles northeast of Springfield). While somewhat cramped at our previous location (which we shared with 2 other tenants) we now have a 14,000 SF shop on nearly 6 acres. True to the roots of our company, we are located on the former site of the Fischer Saw Mill (once the largest of its kind in Oregon). In fact, our shop is recent construction built around the former mill’s early 20th century 6-bay brick dry kilns (the only structure remaining from the old Fischer Mill, which burned down in 1955).
Our project teams pride themselves on the ability to plan and safely execute their work. Our safety modification rates reflect that as they are continually below industry norm. Since 2005 we have had zero lost time incidents. We, however, do not rest on the laurels of these statistics. Instead we strive continually for an injury free environment with the goal of ensuring all of our workers, and those working around us, go home safely to their families.
